MONEY RANK / U.S. HOUSEHOLDS

WHERE DOES YOUR NET WORTH RANK?

Compare your household net worth with the Federal Reserve’s 2022 SCF wealth distribution for the same age group.

2022 benchmark, not a current rank. Dollar thresholds are in 2022 dollars. If you enter today’s net worth, treat the result as a rough historical comparison. Net worth means assets minus debts; age follows the SCF reference person.

Your household’s age group and net worth.

Assets minus debts. Negative amounts are welcome.
Whose age? What counts as net worth?

This compares households, not individual people. SCF age refers to its reference person: the male in an economically dominant mixed-sex couple, the older person in an economically dominant same-sex couple, or an economically dominant single person. Include people financially interdependent with that person or couple, not unrelated roommates. Include household cash, investments, retirement accounts, property, vehicles and business interests, minus debts. Do not enter annual income.

Investments include retirement accounts. For your home, enter the full market value and the mortgage balance separately. Do not enter home equity and then subtract the mortgage again. Other assets include vehicles, other real estate and business interests; enter gross asset values and associated debts separately.

Source & methodologyFederal Reserve 2022 SCF and how the bands work.

NUTPEEK uses age-group percentile thresholds derived from the Federal Reserve 2022 Survey of Consumer Finances public Summary Extract. The Federal Reserve states that dollar variables in the public extract are already inflation-adjusted to 2022 dollars, so this version applies no additional CPI adjustment.

The benchmark uses the SCF age groups shown above and selected percentile thresholds at the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th and 95th percentiles. Results are shown as broad bands between these anchors rather than interpolated exact percentiles. The selected anchors were cross-checked against the Federal Reserve’s published 2022 age-group medians and an independent tabulation of the same public extract. NUTPEEK does not interpolate between anchors or present these bands as official confidence intervals.

The SCF calls its unit a ‘family’ or primary economic unit; NUTPEEK uses ‘household’ as reader-friendly shorthand. Net worth means assets minus liabilities. The age group is based on the SCF reference person.

The tool is a benchmark, not personalized financial advice. Source basis reviewed September 14, 2026.
